The experts drove Dahlia to St. Patrick's Cathedral, where she was blindfolded and led along some labyrinthine path to a small inner room where her eyes were freed again. There were no windows. The walls looked like they were made of marble.

The experts started talking to her in Latin, asking her if she was St. Catherine of the wheel, if the story of her life were true.

"I don't speak Latin," she said in Latin. "I have no wheel. I don't know anything. I'm a provincial girl who grew up in a tent."

They examined her wounds, taking samples of her blood - no needles were necessary. With their ancient books and test tubes, they reminded Dahlia of alchemists.
