UNION, NJ -- You've heard of Sarah Fischer, the walking prophet, but perhaps just as intriguing is her mysterious sidekick, known only as "Johnny." He claims to be merely "along for the ride" but where did he get his ticket?

For the less holy of us, life on the road seems difficult, but Johnny shrugs it off.

"Well, we don't sleep on the pavement," he says. "Someone always takes us in at night (and according to witnesses, Sarah always manages to pick a friendly house on the first try)."

But what about the days?

"I see what you're getting at," he answers me. "Wandering along, going nowhere in particular. Trying to fill your time. Hours of consciousness devoid of stimulation. You mean like that... Isn't every day like that?"

I suppose he's right. What is at the end of the road for any of us? Or is it just the road?
