He was a child of numbers. Born in 1966, he would be 33 on Good Friday of the year 2000. He worked as a computer programmer, where he was taught: everything is an object. It extends another object or it contains other objects. In this way, you build bigger and bigger objects. In this way, you break an object down into smaller and smaller pieces.
Once his childhood was behind him, he could no longer reach it. He knew he was born in Queens, at the base of a forked island. So he was told. His sister died when he was eleven, but he couldn't recall feeling anything. All he could hear of her was "one mosquito two mosquito three mosquito" as he hid somewhere dark. And he recollected running into a room that used to have a bed in it. His future overwhelmed his past, like he was standing in a doorway on a bright winter day. Even if he turned back he would see nothing but darkness.
